Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act Governance Training Webcast Series
About
This training series provides an overview of the public workforce development system established in the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), and, specifically, the requirements of system governance. This series of 11 modules introduce and build understanding of the workforce system, the governance framework, and the roles and responsibilities of State and Local entities in the workforce system.
This series offers a good resource for both new workforce professionals as an introduction to WIOA and the governance framework and for experienced professionals as a refresher to the workforce system.
The following modules are included in this series.
Overview of Public Workforce System and The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act provides an introduction to the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) and the role it plays within the public workforce system.
Overview of Workforce System Governance Stakeholders provides an overview of the governance framework as required by WIOA title I and each of the entities that provide governance within the system. This module also a discusses the governance authority of chief elected officials, the local workforce development board, and authority shared by both groups.
Roles and Responsibilities of the State Workforce Development Board discusses the State Workforce Development Board and its overarching roles and responsibilities in the public workforce system.
Roles and Responsibilities of the State Workforce Agency presents a discussion of the State Workforce Agency, its purpose within the public workforce system, and its roles and responsibilities.
Roles and Responsibilities of Chief Elected Officials discusses the roles and responsibilities of locally elected officials in the public workforce system.
Appointing the Local Workforce Development Board presents a discussion of the Chief Elected Officials’ role in establishing a local workforce development board.
Local Workforce Development Board Roles and Responsibilities covers the key roles and responsibilities of the local workforce development board.
Setting the Vision for the System provides insight into the Local Board’s role in developing the vision and principles for the local workforce development area.
Local Workforce System: Memorandum of Understanding provides an overview of the memorandum of understanding, its purpose (beyond being a requirement), and elements required for inclusion in the document.
Avoiding Conflict of Interest reviews conflict-of-interest requirements for Local Workforce Development Board members, the requirements for conflict-of-interest disclosure, and areas where conflict of interest may occur.
Roles and Responsibilities of Local Workforce Development Board Staff discusses the role that local workforce development board staff play in supporting the work of the board.
